Western media have failed dismally in reporting the Ukraine war

While Western news agencies and media have been falling over each other in the rush to cover the Ukrainian side of the story the Russian side of the story has been ignored.

When two cluster bombs recently killed some fifty people at the Kramatorsk railway station in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine the media immediately assumed Russia was to blame.

But the survivors, like the victims, were all Russian speakers in the pro-Russian area of Donbas supposed to be protected by the Minsk agreements of 2014-15.

The media and pundits rushing to interview the survivors for atrocity stories made no mention of this. Few seemed even to realise the survivors were speaking in Russian.

The Western ignorance of what has been going on in Ukraine is appalling. While Western news agencies and media have been falling over each other in the rush to cover the Ukrainian side of the story the Russian side of the story has been ignored.

A video blog run by ex-US serviceman, Patrick Lancaster, used to give us some it idea of the terrible damage caused by Ukrainian attacks in the Lugansk-Donetsk protected areas. A blog called Donbas Insider gave
good reports of military moves, including some in the original Russian.

But both seem to have been censored out of existence.

English language Russian video and radio broadcasts from Moscow have been blocked, to the cheers of many of our alleged defenders of press freedom.

Meanwhile in gross violation of the Minsk agreements the silent war of extermination against the pro-Russians in eastern Ukraine has continued for eight years, with casualties and damage equal to if not
greater than what the Russians have caused to date with their attacks into Ukraine.

The attacks are often promoted by bitterly anti-Russian, semi fascistic forces.

Our media probably does not even realise, let alone admit, that it is a major reason for the current Russian onslaught into Ukraine.

The Minsk agreements promising autonomy for Donetsk and Lugansk provinces. They were negotiated painfully over months, signed by France, Germany, Russia, and Ukraine, and were endorsed by the UN.

Now when, rarely, the Minsk agreements are mentioned we are told they are dead letters.

Welcome to the new US world of ‘rules based order.’
