Lessons from the Strait of Hormuz
John Menadue’s magisterial article on the negative consequences of our security capture by the US with it now manning so many bases and facilities in our country does not mention several recent lessons. Oil rich Middle East emirates and kingdoms which have accepted US bases as offering ‘security’ have found to their grievance that security is not the correct description. The Trump-Netanyahu attacks on the government and military of Iran naturally induced counter attacks on regional US bases. Allied infrastructure and industrial facilities were also targeted by Iran, demonstrating that ‘security’ might be replaced by ‘sitting-ducks’.
