In response to Fraser, Whitlam, Albanese and national sovereignty

Sub-imperial Australia

Historically, Australia has either been a sub-imperial power to the UK or the US – the exceptions being the aspirations of Fraser and Whitlam. AUKUS is the current manifestation of this bipartisan subservience – initially to a feeble Biden and currently to a manic Trump. On 23 June 2026 the Pew Research Centre released research of public views of the US and Trump and this is a warning to Australia. Throughout the world opinion of US is 57 per cent unfavourable and 76 per cent have no confidence in Trump. For Australia, 76 per cent are unfavourable towards the US and 82 per cent have no confidence in Trump. Australia’s continuation with AUKUS means we are complicit with the kidnapping of Madura from Venezuela, the extrajudicial killing of alleged drug smugglers in international waters, the illegal war against Iran, US support for the ethnic cleansing and genocide of Palestinians and the threat to invade Cuba. AUKUS is a con but it is also dangerous. It is not surprising, therefore, that increasing number of voters support the irrational One Nation – because our support for AUKUS is itself irrational promoted as “rational” by a subservient Labor Government.
