To keep office, they have to take us with them
I think one of the reasons Shorten failed in two elections to become PM is that after he flipped on Rudd in favour of Gillard and then flipped back on Gillard in favour of Rudd he made himself appear untrustworthy. I do not remember an adequate explanation for the flip-flop.
Starmer is associated with bringing to completion a panopticon surveillance system. This may be inevitable, but whoever inaugurates it will be vilified. He also continued to pointlessly throw Great Britain into the maelstrom that is Ukraine and in the process managed to lose access to reliable and relatively inexpensive Russian energy. People want their governments to stand up for them, and “Never here Kier” never did that.
