Re Israeli Embassy Attacks Labor’s Draft Gaza Platform. The salient issue of this Israeli Embassy document is not the content, but the purpose. This is a prime example of foreign interference in Australian domestic politics by a foreign power. The astounding response is that this blatant interference has gone unremarked in Australian media and by political leaders. Compare this to when China responded informally (not officially) to a journalist’s request on how they saw the issues impacting the Australian China relationship. This was greeted with outrage as an example of foreign interference. We are long accustomed to being lectured and scolded by US ambassadors and US military personnel without a whimper about foreign interference but the Israeli manifesto takes this selective application of foreign interference outrage to new levels. An appropriate response would include calling in the Ambassador to register this concern but don’t hold your breath.
