No accountability, no restraint
Australia paid $2b to America to upgrade their boat building infrastructure, so they can provide us with second hand subs……….maybe……….if they feel like it. Australia has paid $2b to the UK for much the same thing. Australia paid $2.4b to France as progress payments for building subs under contract. Australia paid $1b to France to end the sub building contract. Outcome zero.
That is a total of $7.4b and what do we have to show for this expenditure, nothing.
Australia paid $41m for the Robodebt RC. Outcome was zero. Australia pays $16m for the NACC which investigated Robodebt (three times). Outcome…….zero………Oh! except for the final report which found nothing, but added at the end that “the public interest has been served”.
No accountability means no restraint which transfers as contempt by the very people who have a duty to be accountability.
Democracy is built on the solid foundations of integrity, accountability and trust. When democracy fails, it fails from within, when these foundations are ruptured. The rupture is shown up by the “no restraint”.
Our democracy is failing. The above examples show how. I cannot make it plainer. This is what you voted for.
