In response to AUKUS is being exposed, but will anything change?

Rethinking Aukus

There is a strong argument against persisting with Aukus that tends to get ignored. We are investing into a defence project that assumes that we understand the world post 2030. Consider what is happening in Ukraine; Russia is being challenged not by sophisticated technology but by cheap drones. Consider the way Trump has exposed the heart of USA foreign policy – a policy which puts America first. This has always been at the heart of American politics (read Greg Grandin’s America, América) Can we really afford to embark on a defence project which assumes that America can be counted on? It is time to cut our losses and invest in our domestic defence capability.
