In response to Labor’s carbon offsets look better on paper than in practice

Carbon offsetting has become greenwashing

Ross Gittins article identifies flaws with carbon offsetting. Sadly, a process that started with the good intention of accelerating global decarbonisation has become a greenwashing mechanism for the fossil fuel industry and complicit governments. A good test of the merits of carbon credits relates to who has paid for them and what this is allowing them to do. Fossil fuel companies are major users of carbon credits. This tells us all we need to know. You can’t accelerate decarbonisation by burning fossil fuels!
