Electric vehicles should not be taxed

Ian McAuley’s article :“Australia’s EV boom has caught policymakers napping” considers ways to tax electric vehicles to compensate for lost fuel excise as EV’s increasingly replace internal combustion engine vehicles. There is a strong case that there should be no electric vehicle tax in the foreseeable future, as the climate imperative is to rapidly reduce the use of fossil fuels. Governments can compensate for lost revenue by looking to the fossil fuel industry, that is causing the climate crisis and in Australia currently receives billions of dollars in subsidies annually.
