In response to Voters are not abandoning democracy – they are waiting for it to work

Promoted to the level of their incompetence

Many will be familiar with the term ‘Promoted to the level of their incompetence’ unfortunately its a truism in our parliament and it leave us its own problems. Sadly the incompetent may well have been very good at what they were where they were promoted from and going back is humiliating and a reduction in pay. In a political example that usually means, for example, a demoted leader hangs around in the party room being a nuisance until they resign (often with the incentive of a well paid diplomatic post) or if they are voted out they become the “ disgruntled expert “, and a go-to (leaking or on screen) for the media to fill their pages and news grabs with.

The turn around from cross party Parliamentary protagonists to post Parliamentary MATES does little to promote trust in the parliamentary system, it just reinforces the opposition for opposition sake narrative and the belief that the taxpayer is paying good pay and conditions to watch an ineffective game of politics. The line up on TV news of ineffectual leaders from around the world does little to promote hope for improvement .
