Respectful debates re immigration are important

Your correspondent suggests that in her letter regarding elements of our current immigration mess that Jenny Goldie aligns herself with Pauline Hanson. That assertion, it seems to me, is unfair, untrue and unhelpful.

To oppose our current migration levels, or to take issue with elements of our migration system, is not racist. The “migration debate” is really a complex set of debates - debates which should be welcome in P&I. But we need robust contestation of ideas, not gratuitous argumentum ad hominem.
