Albanese government must join the dots – and win!

Barbara Fraser, Burwood, Vic, Dec 13, 2024

Certainly, David Spratt’s title is apt and true,”Climate policy is on a collision course with physical reality”, (P&I, Dec 3, 2024). Spratt does an excellent job with joining the dots between fossil fuel emissions mainly causing the planet’s increasing heat and climate extremes, and the lack of a strong urgent global response.

He concludes that the world needs climate relevant goals and prioritising of all countries’ economics and politics.

The Australian federal government must act accordingly and end new fossil fuel projects and exports, plus faster transition here to solar and wind energy, storage and grid. Also, we must protect our native forests, and assist vulnerable countries with recovery from devastation, and changing to clean energy. Australia must be a leader at COP 30 in Brazil and then a genuine co-host with Pacific leaders at COP31.

But first, the Albanese government team must pull all the main costs of living, curbs on population, and climate action dots into one uniting mandate for the election in 2025 – and win it!
