Be bold, Michael Keating

Richard Barnes, Melbourne, Dec 3, 2024

Come on Michael Keating, be bold.

Instead of “the cost-of-living is the dominant political issue”, how about “growing inequality is the dominant political issue”!

Instead of “maybe we will need to adapt to a society … less demanding that productivity and living standards should always continue to increase”, how about “the planet simply cannot sustain current Western living standards”

Look at the facts you discuss Michael, and spell it out:

– GDP is a catastrophic measure of societal well-being, and increasing GDP is the antithesis of what we need

– increased productivity might be useful, but only if the benfits are distributed fairly and only if there is not an environmental cost (which there most certainly is with AI)

– we need radical action to reverse our society’s growing inequality (you have the knowledge to tell us how that might best be done)

– degrowth is the only way to save ourselves.

Find the radical self I know is inside you Michael, and help guide us to a better future.

Share and Enjoy !
