EEZ rules

Leigh Bunting, Adelaide, May 10, 2024

I was enlightened by this article as to the rules for entering an EEZ.

The question begs as to why HMAS Hobart was in that particular area (enforcing sanctions on DPRK sounds a bit thin), so what were their orders and on whose authority. If the orders came from the UN, then China’s reaction is overblown. If we are lapdogs to US orders then that is different.

I can understand that the EEZ borders in the Yellow Sea are tight but maybe there are other factors at work such as the Chinese/DPRK at-sea goods transfers are being hindered by foreign militaries, so China kicking up a stink is a way of taking the heat off them.

Who knows? But interactions between countries are rarely simple.
