Policy, policy, policy!!!
As Australia continues to wallow in an economic morass of its own making, the howling of the Banshees for the Reserve Bank to do something is deafening. Howl as they might, however, it will make not one iota of difference!!
Governments make policies, the Reserve does not! The Federal Government of Australia has been making poor decisions for many years (about 50) when it comes to economics and with the rum lot in power at present there is more to come. The raising and/or lowering of interest rates is an extremely poor substitute for poor policy.
Poor policy: Immigration, foreign affairs, housing, education, health, transport, the environment, water & food, human rights, First Australians, climate change, &c which all add up to the economy. All of these policies come under the control of the Federal Government of Australia. Not the Reserve Bank!
