My hope is that the possible outcome postulated by the writer is right. I’m optimistic about the pragmatism of China and most Chinese and that a new, more balanced world order will emerge.

I believe the Oz Gov is completely wrong with its commitment to AUKUS, just as we were with our belief that “the Mother Country” would help defend us in World War Two.

We are allowing ourselves to be taken for a ride by the US and the UK in their blatant self interest of attempting to keep a lid on China. Our action in doing this makes it extremely difficult, probably impossible, for any country in our region, including China, India and Indonesia, to see us as anything other than a white outpost for the US (and UK) political, security defence and economic establishments.

The countries of our region cannot trust and accept us as an independently thinking and acting player in our part of the world with the interests of our region as our overarching priority.

That in itself is ironic because we probably are the most successful multi cultural country with huge potential as a showcase for the successful coexistence of peoples
