Defence against who, what?

The first step in this is to identify who we need to defend our selves against and it’s not China

The second step is to clarify if the US would rush to our aid if the others were to attack us. I doubt if the answers is an unqualified yes.

The third step is to adjust our defence policy to suit the above. Australian interests first.

Why not link the rent on all US bases to the equivalent of 100% tariffs on Australian goods going into the US and let the president bargain them down? He likes a bargain.
