"Lockdown"

A lockdown poem.

Former liberties taken for granted

Time now moves in altered form;

Worried thoughts lie deeply planted,

Delta sounds a fearful horn.

Premier speaks with nervous words,

Virus thrives on human herds.

Empty streets and closed up shops,

Facial masks for all and one;

Normal life completely stops,

Zoom is like a “smoking gun”.

Lonely hearts and broken dates,

Groceries come in cardboard crates.

Numbers climb and churn more grief,

Nurses brace and face the battle;

Doctors work without relief,

The media chirps with endless prattle.

Vaccinate to turn the tide?

There is no other place to hide!
