Servile or just vile: Australia's pandering to US, Israel
February 22, 2025
Im waiting to hear Prime Minister Anthony Albanese acknowledge the sovereignty of Palestine as a nation of equal standing with Israel, and the second nation referred to in the “two-state solution” to which Albanese and Labor only pay lip-service. The words fall easily from the lips, but the absence of action empties them of any substance.
Politics, yes, but certainly not leadership. If we allow fascist dictators like Netanyahu, Putin, Trump and their lap-dogs including the US, Labor, LNP and others to violate the “rule of law”, we are complicit in the descent into guaranteed collapse and not-too-distant oblivion. Where is the glory in being servile to anything other than truth and justice? We are being seduced down a slippery slope by the latest in a long line of failed politicians, viz a viz, Howard, Abbott and Morrison.
Self-aggrandisement and greed for (the illusion of) power have captured them and the public in a web of lies, misinformation and secret deals. One of the most dangerous, from which we should extract ourselves urgently, is the AUKUS deal done virtually unilaterally by Morrison, and unwisely acceded to by Albanese and Labor. We are now tied even more closely to the whimsical madness of Trump and his unelected deputy, Elon Musk. Or is Trump the deputy? Im not sure yet. Time will tell. Either way its as scary as geo-politics has ever been.
It’s got to the stage that the wealthiest man in the world, and the man with the greatest seductive power lets call it “evil” set about recreating the world in their own tragic image; a world of unimaginable suffering and chaos. This world would be ruled by their caprice, wealth and power if no one does anything about it. And so far, no one has. And we and our governments watch this horror in real time this deliberate, murderous, psychopathic genocide and global destabilisation on our TVs with various degrees of apathy. Our governments remain cowed and silent. The media remain cowed and silent. The avoidable genocide and rule of law violations continue unabated with now three nations each occupying another sovereign nations land, dispossessing, murdering, displacing, destroying.
And our Australian politicians utter self- deluding, self-justifying words of personal comfort, take no just action, and satisfy themselves with the puerile, misinforming words “we have always supported a two-state solution”. What they havent done is support both states equally. Neither have they championed a return to the just, legal delineation of those two states. Both Albanese and Dutton show no real interest in having the solution enacted. Perhaps thats why theyre using the wrong words, an error exposing their intent which is either unconscious and, therefore, ignorant, or deliberately misinforming which makes it evil.
I refer to the fact that these are not two states; they are two nations! But that would mean acknowledging that Palestine is a sovereign nation, and we mustnt upset the Zionists or break with the US and others approving of Netanyahus genocide. There are votes at risk. Expedience instead of truth, integrity and courage is not “leadership”. Cowed into timidity by extremist lobby groups who threaten it with election loss, and by the opposition who pose the same threat, neither Labor nor the LNP has sufficient integrity or courage to be in government. Both want to be elected. Both refuse to do what is just and truthful for fear it may affect their chances of being elected! Forget about leadership and governance for the public good. Forget about stepping up with truth and honour. Forget about our parlous reputation in the international community. Forget about denouncing the evil suggestion of Trump to displace an entire nation of people!
Israel is guilty of violation of humanity and of international law. The US in its provision of weapons to, and “unwavering support” for, Israel is equally guilty. Australia, in support of the US and Israel, is complicit and guilty. The media share guilt for not presenting the truth. The ABC trots out the old chestnut, “we need to be balanced”. They dont! They need to broadcast the truth without fear or favour. Citizens who remain ignorant, do nothing and vote for Labor or the LNP are guilty also. Think about it.
Albaneses refusal to denounce Trumps ridiculous “takeover of Gaza”, for example, proves the point. He should have responded with something like “the only way to peace in the region is for Israel to withdraw its IDF and Israeli citizens from all territory occupied since 1967, return said territory to Palestinians, and support the UN in ensuring those boundaries are honoured by all parties”. (A statement like that would probably also ensure his re-election, and ease antisemitism). Duttons response was “if Trumps idea brings about peace in the region, of course I would support that!” Come on!! These leaders flick off foolish partisan words and strategies for mindless partisan gain; truth is sacrificed on the altar of political expediency. On major issues especially, both camps are a travesty. Somewhere there is elusive humanity; leadership just and true. It’s characterised by wisdom, humility, honesty, courage. Will we experience that? I choose to be optimistic, but the signs arent good.
