The greatest irony in our contemporary history
July 12, 2025
I just read the Sunday Age articles by Chip Le Grand. The writer and The Age have been engaged in a vicious propaganda campaign against the increasing mass protests in Australia that have also involved large numbers of artists, writers, academics and students opposed to the Gazan genocide.
As part of the Channel 9 media group, the aim of The Age, The Sydney Morning Herald and other mass media ruling class outlets, including particularly the Murdoch media, is to suppress in Australia all opposition to the Palestinian holocaust.
These media outlets support Netanyahu’s war of annihilation and the key indicator of their support is the suppression of all oppositional voices, especially oppositional anti-Zionist Jewish voices, and Jewish anti-Zionist organisations intransigently opposed to Netanyahu’s fascist government. The motive for such suppression is transparent: it is to make sure that critical opposition to the Zionist Establishment and narrative by Jewish dissidents is not aired in public discourse.
A second aim of the ruling class and their political agents in the form of the ALP, the Liberals and their media outlets is to suppress any form of public opposition to the unspeakable, absolute horror of the Palestinian genocide.
We are witnessing a repetition of what happened in the 1930s when large sections of the Australian, British, French and American ruling classes supported fascist movements and openly expressed great sympathy towards Italian fascism and Hitler’s Nazi regime. The rhetoric of much of the mass media at the time in these countries was their support of the 1930s fascist wave and their antisemitic campaigns which led to attacks on Jewish people ending in the Jewish Holocaust.
In our contemporary times, the rhetoric has switched to anti-Palestinian and anti-Arab racism and Islamophobia.
The irony today, but perhaps not an unbelievable irony, is that Netanyahu, whose ideological roots lay in Jabotinsky’s Zionist fascism, is getting uncritical support from the Western ruling elites who continue their ruthless domination and exploitation of the peoples of the Middle East.
