Can you help Pearls and Irritations raise the bar in Australia’s media landscape?
Aug 1, 2024As an independent media, Pearls and Irritations is only supported by the generous donations and monthly subscriptions from our readers. Can you help?
Pearls and Irritations has recently celebrated a milestone of more than 20,000 posts.
An independent media, we are only supported by the generous donations and monthly subscriptions from our readers.
This year, John Menadue, founder and Editor in Chief has put in place a new governance structure for Pearls and Irritations, to secure the future of this vital publication and the role it plays in bringing thought leadership to Australia’s key policy issues and the international affairs impacting our country.
Our authors are experts in their field and, believing in the ethos of Pearls and Irritations, are not paid for their articles. Rather than simply reporting, they unpack issues confronting Australians to bring background, depth and insight to matters that are often largely ignored , skimmed over or skewed by mainstream media.
In our recent survey of our readers, they told us this is what they value most.
Our operations are small and efficient, while our plans to expand our reach are large. We now offer our readers articles, podcasts and vodcasts from some of the country’s best minds. We have increased our channels, adding branded channels on Spotify, Vimeo and Youtube to our existing social media.
While the majority of readers are in Australia, our overseas readership is growing too.
Aside from John who has also never taken remuneration for his leadership, our team consists of four highly competent professionals: our Editor, Aran Martin, our Production Editor and Production Assistant, and our Technical Lead, each of whom work remotely, keeping our overheads low.
To extend our reach we need to add to our team to manage our increased volume of articles and media, which has doubled in the last year or so.
As we roll out our fundraising campaign, we appreciate that the current economy has also rolled out some challenges.
We hope that you can help us to continue to raise the bar in the Australian media landscape with a one-off donation.
As always, we appreciate your ongoing support and readership.
How to donate:
For the first time and for a short period of time we can offer tax deductibility on donations through the Australian Cultural Fund which is a fundraising platform for Australian artists. It is operated by Creative Australia and was established by the Australian Government in 2003 to encourage donations to the arts.
You can make your one-off donation here.
Your donation will be gratefully received.
P.S: We aim to obtain Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR status) for all contributions and all donations and are awaiting a decision of the Government following a report from the Productivity Commission. We think we have a better case than the Institute of Public Affairs, which has DGR status and is associated with the wealthiest and most conservative people in the country…..Rupert Murdoch and Gina Rinehart!
