Cry havoc: US and UK leaders trying to con Europeans into war in Ukraine

Anglosphere media are uncritically regurgitating Washington and Downing Street propaganda and failing to recount actual Russian-Ukrainian history.

Pearls and Irritations has recently published a number of excellent article on the Ukrainian crisis, such as those by Cameron Leckie and Gregory Clark.

It’s a frightening thought, but we all know that waging war is one way politicians in democracies can shore up and win public support.

Boris Johnson and Joe Biden are both in trouble, so what better way to lift their support than fan the flames of war with Russia. It seems that only their governments are sure that war is coming.

So what do they know that we do not? What are they planning?

The Russians say they aren’t going to invade Ukraine and the Ukrainian leadership appears to agree.

Forgetting the Iraq Weapons-of-Mass-Destruction war, most of the Anglosphere media are uncritically regurgitating Washington and Downing Street propaganda and failing to recount actual Russian-Ukrainian history.

But, as in the lead-up to the Iraq war, the Germans and the French are not yet fully on board the US and British warships.

Could it be that the Germans realise that sanctions blocking the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, which would more than double supplies of natural gas to Europe’s largest economy, would do at least as much damage to Germany as it would to Russia?

Could it be that the French understand what the Russians are saying when they speak of their fear of having more weapons belonging to the NATO military alliance stationed along their border?

And is it too conspiratorial and to clever to suggest that the British and Americans are trying to con the Europeans into accepting sanctions and even into joining military operations that might boost the American and British position at the expense of the Europeans?
