Edward Said Memorial Lecture 2020 Video – Melissa Parke

The Israeli lobbies in Australia, Europe and the USA are attempting to silence those who speak the truth about Israel’s abuse of Palestinians’ human rights.

They have weaponized anti-Semitism as means to cover for Israeli government’s crimes and have used defamatory language to tarnish the reputation of those who dare to speak out about those crimes.

The Hon. Melissa Parke has been fighting the media and Australia/Israel & Jewish Affairs Council executive director Colin Rubenstein, in court, to clear her name after she was forced to withdraw from the last federal election, following a targeted smear campaign to tarnish her reputation as a tireless campaigner for human rights. For the last two years, Melissa has been a member of the Group of Eminent Experts on Yemen, appointed by the UN Human Rights Commission, where she documented the human rights abuse by local and external players in Yemen.

The court case against Colin Rubenstein will be heard in the federal court in April of next year and the legal team are confident that she has a strong case. However, funds are needed to keep the very generous and professional team going until then.
