In response to Don’t mistake truth for hate, prime minister

Not a fair go

To say Anthony Albanese’s speech to the UN regarding Palestinian statehood was a disappointment is an understatement.

It was replete with sycophantic pandering to Israel, along with an oppressive reminder to the Palestinian Authority to comply with outrageous demands that prevent it giving payments to widows of those who are held in Israeli jails or killed by Israel.

Albanese also said the Palestinian Authority must “guard against the incitement of violence and hatred”. This statement is beyond belief. Where was the admonishment to Israel to stop their own population — 82% at the latest poll — wishing all Palestinians to be expelled from Gaza? Where was his urging of the Israelis to stop indoctrinating their own children in schools to hate Palestinians? The evidence of Israeli indoctrination is clearly available for anyone wishing to look.

Where was Albanese’s admonishment of Ben-Gvir and Smotrich for promising to eradicate all Palestinians from the face of the Earth and swearing that there will never be a Palestinian state? Why does our government still entertain the fantasy that the Israeli Government is a reasonable entity that can be convinced of a two-state solution? Was this speech just to appease protesters in Australia?
